How are your nerves?

Are you feeling anxious today? A line in a song sung by Gordon Mote says, “If you’ve got time to worry, you’ve got time to pray”.

As I was praying and thinking about what to write today, I picked up the book Then Sings My Soul by Robert J. Morgan. The introduction to this book has the title ‘The Cure for Shot Nerves’. This book contains the stories behind 150 hymns but as I read down the introductory page, the first words of Fanny Crosby’s hymn, All The Way The Savior Leads Me, struck me so I looked up the rest of the verses. Written in 1875, these words are timeless and I trust they minister to and encourage you today.

vs.1
All the way my Savior leads me;
What have I to ask beside?
Can I doubt His tender mercy,
Who through life has been my Guide?
Heav’nly peace, divinest comfort,
Here by faith in Him to dwell!
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well;
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well.
vs.2
All the way my Savior leads me,
Cheers each winding path I tread;
Gives me grace for every trial,
Feeds me with the living Bread.
Though my weary steps may falter,
And my soul athirst may be,
Gushing from the Rock before me,
Lo! A spring of joy I see;
Gushing from the Rock before me,
Lo! A spring of joy I see.
vs.3
All the way my Savior leads me
O the fullness of His love!
Perfect rest to me is promised
In my Father’s house above.
When my spirit, clothed immortal,
Wings its flight to realms of day
This my song through endless ages—
Jesus led me all the way;
This my song through endless ages—
Jesus led me all the way Jesus led me all the way.
